Give Bulbs a Boost
Bulbs are right at home in a variety of settings
on their own, or planted
with perennials that will take over as they finish. Some, such as daffodils, crocus
and scilla look great in naturalized or woodland setting. They can get all the
light they need before trees leaf out in spring. Most bulbs require very little
care to produce many years' worth of blooms.
Dig a hole or trench to the recommended depth (a rule of thumb is to plant the
bulb three times deeper than its size) sprinkle Holland Bulb Booster 9-9-6
or Vigoro Bone Meal 2-14-0 into the hole and place the bulb on top.
For established bulbs, sprinkle the Bulb Booster or Bone Meal on the surface of
the soil in the spring and fall. When bulbs are finished flowering, remove the
head, but don't cut the leaves down until they've turned yellow. This ensures
that the bulb has time to build up energy reserves for the following year.
Holland Bulb Booster is North American's number one bulb food, developed
by Holland bulb growers. In independent testing it has been proven better than
bone meal. It produces larger deeper green foliage and longer lasting flowers.
It also encourages formation of a large yield of bulbs for the next season.
